At Christ Church, we recognise that occasionally life can be extremely challenging and that all people, including our friends, family and global citizens will encounter hardships which they will require help for in order to overcome them. At Christ Church School, we inspire our children to be ‘courageous advocates’.

We believe that striving to become outstanding courageous advocates builds children’s resilience, teamwork, courage and independence. It develops their understanding of the wider world and how they can assist to make it a better place. This will empower our children to flourish in every aspect of their lives and reach their full potential.

We believe human beings are created by the same God who created the entire universe and everything in it. To look after the Earth, and thus God's dominion, is the responsibility of all God’s stewards.

We embrace the Church of England’s vision for education, one that is, ‘deeply Christian, serving the common good’, encompasses the whole of humanity and its context advocating for the widening of horizons and the promotion of human wellbeing for all.

Our vision, distinct Christian values and British values and our broad and balanced curriculum at Christ Church, ensure that there are regular opportunities to discuss current worldwide issues. This is so that the children can challenge injustices and engage in activities that can bring about change. Here are a few examples:

• All year groups have a global focus studying conflict and peace, fair trade, migration and refugees, sustainability, rights and responsibilities and identity. We are committed to developing citizenship, in preparation for life within the local, national and global communities and engage in social action for change and our pupils embrace it.
• In RE, Science, Humanities and PHSE lessons there is a focus on Big Questions. The emphasis is on how can they, as children of God, make a difference to the world we live in. Issues of global significance and ecology of the world are studied and discussed. For example KS2 studies the Amazon Rainforest, Climate change/Deforestation/impact of the climate crisis on people's lives.
• Children explore Global Connections in our daily life (PSHE), Year 5 has been focussing on Fairtrade disadvantage, deprivation. In Global Learning in Art and Design textiles - pupils explore inequality/exploitation/deprivation in the textile industry).
• Collective worship themes include International days which support equality such as International Women’s day, International Peace day, Armistice day, Kindness day, World toilet day, Holocaust memorial day, World water day, Black History and much more.
